Perfect is the enemy of good. That’s a challenge The Optimist Daily often faces. Cotton, the most widely used natural fiber, is the world’s dirtiest crop. It uses 17.5 percent of global insecticide sales. That’s why fashion business leaders like Patagonia and Eileen Fisher are using organic cotton. But that good mission comes with a problem: Organic cotton cost as much as $2.20 per pound, compared to about 61¢ for conventional cotton. That means that many people cannot afford organic cotton clothing. The Better Cotton Initiative, led by brands as Ikea, Zara and H&M is the step in between.
