Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with more than 75 percent of the population living off the grid. That could soon change thanks to a company called Sigora International, which recently created a brand new grid that powers a town of 5,000 in Haiti with renewable energy. The company did this in six months, and now it plans to provide electricity to a million people by the end of 2018. To accomplish such a massive task, Sigora is creating systems in different towns that cluster several micro-grids together to make renewable power cheaper and more reliable. And there is much reason to believe Sigora has the capability to do this, especially after the company restored power to a town hit hard by Hurricane Matthew in just 55 hours.
