As much as we applaud news of coal-fired power stations being shut down, the truth is that these closures can dramatically affect the communities that relied on these stations economically. Tonawanda, New York is no different. The working class Buffalo suburb lost its largest air and water polluter, but at the same time, also lost its biggest tax payer. Now, 16 months after being hit with that massive financial blow, the town is rallying together to create clean, family-sustaining jobs to improve the quality of life within the community.
