You or someone close to you could be living with a heart condition passed along through the family without even knowing it. But you may never have to worry about that thanks to a new development from a team of international researchers. The research group has developed a blood test that that can reliably detect all known inherited heart problems through a new technique that identifies flaws in all 174 genes linked to the potentially life-threatening issues, which would allow you to mitigate the effects of any found condition before it becomes an emergency. Previous tests could only examine a handful of genes and were only useful in certain circumstances, often allowing conditions to slip past doctors without being identified. The new blood test won’t spare you from having to take medicine or change your lifestyle, but it could prevent a tragedy.
