Sages in Asia have taught for ages that an orgasm brings human beings for a moment to the experience of God. Now a research team has confirmed that teaching in a scientific experiment. The researchers carried out a study in which they boosted levels of oxytocin in middle-aged men and found increased self-reported spirituality. Oxytocin is released during sex (and during childbirth and lactation). The participants who received the hormone gave more positive responses to statements including “all life is interconnected” and “there is a higher plane of consciousness or spirituality that binds all people”. A control group who received a placebo did not report higher levels of spirituality.
