For the Paris agreement to come into force, a total of 55 countries amounting to at least 55 percent of total global emissions must ratify the deal. The U.S and China were amongst the most recent countries to ratify the deal, and now India has announced they too will give their approval on Wednesday, the birth anniversary of India’s independence leader Mahatma Gandhi. India accounts for about 4.5 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, raising the total of global emissions accounted for to 47.8 percent.
