In an attempt to make up for the major lack of organs available for transplants, various scientists across the U.S are trying to recreate organs in the lab. One particular group from Penn State have found out how to turn human stem cells into the cells that form the surface of the heart. At Stanford, researchers have figured out to recreate the muscular part in the center of the heart that stimulates contractions necessary to pump blood, and the team is busy with developing a method to create cells that form another portion inside the heart. On top of all these steps towards reproducing a real human heart, scientists have also crafted a way to repair hearts deemed unsuitable for transplant.
