While canned foods are usually what comes to mind when you think of food banks, hunger-relief organizations in the US are working quickly to get nutritious foods like fruits and vegetables to those who need it most. To do this, a new strategy has been rolled out that urges farmers to bring their surplus crops to food banks, essentially creating a physical link between growers and hunger-relief nonprofits. Such a strategy metaphorically kills two birds with one stone as it tackles both food waste and hunger-relief efforts.
