We’ve already heard how the psilocybin from so-called “magic” mushrooms may help to alleviate depression. Well, a new study now suggests that a compound found in all mushrooms could also assist in warding off mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The researchers found that by consuming different variations of mushrooms on a daily basis, you can cut the odds of developing MCI by 50 percent. It’s suspected that mushrooms’ relatively high concentrations of a certain antioxidant may inhibit the production of proteins that are linked to dementia and other types of cognitive decline. While MCI isn’t as severe as dementia, it can make understanding information or completing complex tasks a lot harder.
