Are you getting bored of your work from home lunches? Chances are those reheated leftovers aren’t quite as exciting as grabbing a bite to eat with coworkers at your favorite local cafe. If quarantine lunches are putting a damper on your day, here are some ways to spice up your midday meal.

First, add nutritious ingredients with delicious flavors. Your lunch doesn’t have to be fancy to satisfy you, but mixing it up with new and flavorful ingredients can make a world of difference. Check out a new recipe to prep for next week’s lunches and include some ingredients you wouldn’t usually buy. Some targeted salt, acid, or umami can really elevate your lunch game. Berries, tomatoes, and cucumber are all coming into season so take advantage of tasty summer produce. Try thinking of your favorite dish at a place you used to eat at and attempt to recreate it!

Next, be mindful of how you use technology. Usually, weekday lunches are a great way to step away from work and catch up with friends or coworkers. Many of us are guilty of shoveling in bites of salad while still typing out emails with our other hand, but try to take a real break for lunch, even when working from home. Step away from the computer and spend your time really enjoying your food, not scrolling through social media. Invite your partner or child to break for lunch at the same time or even schedule a video chat with friends for a brief catch up.

Lastly, focus on presentation. While flavor is probably the most critical component of your lunch, those colorful placemats and jars of flowers at your favorite restaurant add to the appeal. Take a moment to actually set your table and light your favorite candle or open up a window for a more enjoyable ambiance.

Your kitchen table might never be quite as exciting as your favorite bistro, but small changes can make a big difference in creating a lunch break that helps you relax and recharge.
