Scientists have discovered a way to treat cocaine addiction by deleting memories related to the drug. They used a light-based technique known as optogenetics to control the neurons between two parts in the brain which are essential in forming memories. After doing so, they observed that the treatment proved effective in some rats, diminishing their desire for cocaine. Eventually, the researchers believe their study into erasing memories associated with drug use could help humans stay clean.
