Today’s Solutions: August 08, 2026

Last week we wrote about five of the easiest veggies to grow if you’re new to gardening. This week we’re back with the easy-to-grow fruit edition! When it comes to growing fruit, plenty of water is the key for sweet, juicy flavor so make sure you’ve got effective irrigation set up and get started with these six fruity basics.

Tomatoes

Yes, tomatoes are fruit. Get some starters and tomato cages and plant in beds or pots. Plant some basil around your tomatoes to keep pests away.

Cherries

Cherries love lots of space and deep, fertile ground. Grow them in containers for a faster yield and make sure they get full sunlight for at least six hours a day.

Watermelon

This summertime favorite is surprisingly easy to grow. Give them plenty of space and water and watch these meandering vines work their magic.

Berries

There’s nothing better than eating a warm strawberry right from the garden and berries like strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries will provide yields in their first season. Berries love lots of sun and well-drained soil. Most do best with other varieties of the same fruit as cross pollinators so try to get two different types of berries for higher yields.

Bananas

You don’t have to live in a tropical environment to grow bananas. Plant a dwarf variety in a large pot and give it plenty of water and good drainage for the best results.

Figs

Fig trees don’t take as long to start producing as apples or other fruits and they can be kept in a relatively small pot. Keep in full sun and use a nitrogen-rich fertilizer for best results.
