Thanks to the state of Vermont, food brands in the U.S will soon have to label products that contain ingredients derived from genetically modified plants. The law will require food companies to comply with a labeling standard that warns consumers of products made from GMOs by July 1, and since changing the labels for just one state is costly for food companies, the law appears it will go into effect nationwide. The passed legislation will help bring more transparency in the food industry about the use of GMOs, which are not regulated and can pose an allergy risk for consumers.
