Green spaces in a city have multiple benefits, but a new one can be added to the list: a recent study showed green spaces in a neighborhood have a direct link with lower crime rates. Among the studied cities is Youngstown, Ohio. The city is full of empty spaces, following economic stagnation and deindustrialization, which are turned into well-maintained green spaces. The result was lower numbers of small crimes as theft and street violence.
