Contrary to Donald Trump’s antithetical rhetoric, refugees entering the U.S are not arriving to threaten the country’s safety. The real issue that surrounds refugees coming to America is the system that fails to fully integrate refugees into the American economy. The U.S has programs set up to help refugees find jobs in their first few months, but after that, they are on their own. It doesn’t need to be this way though. All around the country, jobs are vacant that require people with skills like welding or carpentry, and refugees could be the ones to fill these jobs. Just take a look at this article that shows how an opportunity center in Minnesota is helping Somali refugees find the path towards well-paying jobs. It’s programs like these that can push the U.S to do more to help refugees while filling jobs that need people.
