Today’s Solutions: December 05, 2025

Growing your own food at home can go a long way in helping you live a more sustainable lifestyle, but that can be difficult if you don’t have a backyard garden. In a bid to offer a solution, designers have come up with smaller-scale gardens and growing kits that you can use to supply yourself with herbs and greens. And a more recent design offers you the opportunity to grow your own mushrooms in a sleek yet functional way.

Called the Mycelia House, the kit comes from designer Caity Duffus and represents a practical and simple container that showcases the beauty of mushrooms while supporting their growth within the home. The product’s aim? To reinvigorate the connection between humans and their innate nature, through the display, caring for, and nourishment of mushrooms as a living entity and as a food source.

As reasoned by Duffus, humans have evolved to live in cities and with the current pandemic, they are craving a deeper relationship with themselves, the natural world, and their daily routine. As such, she wanted to create something that encourages people to connect to and emotionally relate with. With a love for houseplants, and inspired by the arising trends in the localization of food production and DIY alternatives, she eventually came up with the concept for the Mycelia Houses.
