Today’s Solutions: December 17, 2025

You have a busy life, and now that the weather is nicer and Covid-19 restrictions are loosening up, you will likely find yourself with a busier schedule. How can you be sure that you’re fueling your body with food that will elevate your energy and sustain you with continuous strength? According to Ximena Araya-Fischel, functional nutrition coach at MindBodyGreen, with self-awareness and the right educational tools, food can be an effective and natural energy booster. Here are the top three foods she snacks on regularly to reinvigorate and replenish her energy stores.

Plant-based protein

The human body produces energy at a cellular level, so getting enough minerals, protein, fat, carbs, vitamins, amino acids, and phytonutrients is essential for your body to function healthily. Plant-derived foods have a diverse number of energizing compounds plus they often offer an abundance of nutrients, fiber, and of course protein.

To get all nine essential amino acids your body needs to support cellular energy production, you need variety. Some solid sources of plant-based protein include hemp hearts, plant-based protein beverages, beans, and nutritional yeast.

Dark chocolate

Haven’t you always wanted to have chocolate for breakfast? Well, it turns out that dark chocolate in the morning promotes energy levels and overall happiness. It has heart-protective flavonoids that are linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, improved cognitive function, glucose homeostasis, less intestinal inflammation, and more.

Incorporate dark chocolate by treating yourself to hot chocolate oatmeal, dark chocolate toast, or a yummy cacao smoothie.

Fruits and veggies

This probably won’t come as a shock—fruits and veggies are full of nutrition and extremely diverse. You can throw fruits and veggies into a plentitude of dishes, but it can be as easy as reaching for fresh, organic fruit for a quick bite between errands, or chopping up some bell peppers to dip into hummus for an afternoon snack.
